About

The mission

The mission of Turing Tree is to promote transparency about who and what is shaping the development of what many call the most important technology ever.

What it is

Turing Tree is a living, curated database of the people and organizations shaping AI. We also publish a newsletter with highlights of new organizations, people, and notable moves to help you follow the field.

The story

As an AI journalist and enthusiast, I wanted a clearer overview of the field’s most important players: the key people and organizations shaping this highly consequential technology. So I started adding names to a spreadsheet, beginning with authors of key papers and other notable people at leading labs.

The spreadsheet quickly grew, and I decided to turn it into a living, searchable database, where deeper connections and history could also emerge. It has already proved valuable in my work, and I hope it will be useful to you too. Let me know if you have any suggestions, news, or other feedback I should know about.

What we track

Notable people and organizations, with concise biographies, affiliations, research fields, and useful links. We prioritize reliable context over exhaustive career histories.

How it works

Profiles draw on public sources and editorial review. Anyone can suggest additions or corrections. The monthly Top 50 is one entry point into the wider database, using citations as one signal.

A note on scope

Coverage is curated and may contain gaps or errors. Updates do not capture every move, and Google Scholar counts can be imperfect. Citations are not a measure of someone’s overall contribution to AI.
