Aschenbrenner is a former member of OpenAI's superalignment team who, after leaving in 2024, published Situational Awareness, a widely read essay arguing that AGI could arrive before 2030 and reshape national security. He then founded Situational Awareness LP, an investment firm built around that thesis.
