Wayve announced that Alexander Toshev has joined Wayve as Research Director, leading a new Wayve Labs effort to develop general intelligence for robot manipulation and mobility beyond autonomous vehicles.
Toshev moves from Apple, where he co-led MM1, an early family of multimodal models that process both images and language, and later led research on agents that interact with software through graphical interfaces and tools.
He previously spent more than a decade at Google, including six years helping build Google Robotics. There he co-led SayCan, which connected language models with a robot’s available skills so it could plan and carry out longer tasks.
