Andrew B. Hall announced on X that he has joined Anthropic as a Member of Technical Staff on its Rule of Law team. He said August 18 was his first day.
Hall will study the political economy of increasingly capable AI: how systems can support democratic self-government, protect individual liberty, and earn the trust of citizens and policymakers. He plans to combine experiments with AI agents and large-scale data analysis.
The Anthropic position is an additional full-time role, not a departure from academia. Hall said he will continue running Free Systems Lab, and current Stanford and Hoover profiles still list him as the Davies Family Professor of Political Economy at Stanford Graduate School of Business and a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution.
