Bilal Chughtai has joined BlueDot Impact as a Program Lead, where he is working on a new program to help people develop the skills needed for AI-safety work.
Chughtai announced on X that he had resigned from Google DeepMind, where he worked on AI safety and alignment research. He said the speed of recent progress and the difficulty of ensuring advanced systems behave as intended had left him deeply concerned about AI's current direction.
He wrote that his next focus would be helping more people work effectively on reducing catastrophic AI risks. Before DeepMind, Chughtai researched how to understand the internal workings of AI models at Apollo Research.
