Brad Lightcap announced on X that he is leaving OpenAI after eight years to start something new. He said he will remain around for the next few weeks.
Lightcap joined OpenAI in 2018 and helped build its early finance, legal, people, security, go-to-market and partnership functions as the organization grew from a research lab into a global technology company.
He did not name or describe the new venture, saying only that he has been focused on what the next phase of AI development will require and will share more later.
