Chelsea Sierra Voss announced on X on 3 October that she was stepping back from work to focus on her family, after seven years at OpenAI.

Voss joined in 2019, when GPT-2 was OpenAI's newest language model. She recalled her astonishment when GPT-3 first produced a syntactically valid Python function, and work spanning the GPT-3 API launch, DALL·E 2, ChatGPT and Codex. She also described presenting GPT-4 to Bill Gates in 2022 and helping ship the exam evaluations used for its 2023 release.

“What followed from there has been a complete whirlwind of seven years, an adventure that has been the privilege of a lifetime,” she wrote. Voss said the tools she had once imagined now existed, and that she was ready to turn her attention to building a family.
