Geoffrey Irving announced that he will be leaving AISI and moving back to the Bay Area for family reasons, where he plans to start a new nonprofit alignment research organization. Irving had been Chief Scientist at the UK AI Security Institute after earlier alignment and safety work at OpenAI and Google DeepMind.
