Jacob Tsimerman commits full-time to MAISI, will not join OpenAI as an employee

Jacob Tsimerman announced on X on October 15 that he will work full-time as founding Scientific Director of the Mathematical AI Safety Institute (MAISI). He explicitly said he would not be joining OpenAI as an employee, revising his earlier plans.

Tsimerman said he would continue collaborating with OpenAI. According to his announcement, OpenAI offered MAISI $10 million in API credits and access to its latest models for research, and will participate in a multi-lab AI safety workshop planned for 2027.

MAISI is an independent non-profit developing mathematical foundations for AI safety. Tsimerman said the institute was also discussing collaborations with other labs and AI safety organizations.
