Jeff Dean leaves Google after 27 years to build Discovery Loop

Jeff Dean announced on X that August 6 would be his last day at Google, ending a 27-year tenure that began when the company had roughly 25 employees.

Dean helped build foundational systems including MapReduce, Bigtable and Spanner, co-founded Google Brain, and later served as chief scientist of Google DeepMind and Google Research. He is leaving to build Discovery Loop with Sanjay Ghemawat, Oriol Vinyals and Quoc Le.
