Lennart Heim announced on X that he has joined the OpenAI Foundation to lead AI Resources, a new effort focused on preparing AI systems to take on important societal challenges and getting those capabilities into the right hands.
Heim said the program will explore how increasingly capable AI can help society respond to the challenges created by the technology itself, across a range of possible futures. The Foundation is hiring for AI Resources as part of its broader expansion.
Before the move, Heim led the compute team at RAND, where his work connected AI chips, data centers, export controls, and model security to practical policy choices. He also taught AI policy as a professor of policy analysis at RAND's graduate school.
