Nathan Chen announced on X on October 15 that he had recently left Moonshot AI, the company behind Kimi. His LinkedIn profile lists his Member of Technical Staff role as November 2025–September 2026.
Reflecting on his time at Kimi, Chen highlighted work on efficient model computations, Attention Residuals, training algorithms, and the Kimi K3 release. Attention Residuals lets a model choose which earlier layers’ information to reuse, rather than combining every layer in the same way.
He thanked his colleagues and said there were more things to explore, without naming a new employer. October 15 is the announcement date; he did not give an exact departure day.
