Omar M. Yaghi has joined Tsinghua University as a full-time Chair Professor after serving on the faculty at UC Berkeley. Tsinghua formally welcomed him at an appointment ceremony on July 3.
Yaghi will lead the establishment of AIMATRY, a university-level institute combining AI, materials science, and chemistry. Its aim is to use artificial intelligence to accelerate the design and synthesis of new materials, including work addressing water scarcity, carbon neutrality, and sustainable development.
Yaghi shared the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development of metal–organic frameworks, porous molecular structures with applications including atmospheric water harvesting and carbon capture.
