Richard S. Sutton announced on X that he and Khurram Javed had left Keen Technologies to start Oak Lab. Sutton praised John Carmack and the Keen team while saying the founders wanted to pursue a different path toward understanding intelligence.
Like Keen, Oak Lab is betting on reinforcement learning and intelligence built through runtime experience. Its research agenda argues that current deep-learning methods need more fundamental changes before they can support more ambitious AI systems.
