Sören Mindermann announced in a Substack post on 20 October that he will join Tsinghua University’s College of AI as an assistant professor in November, studying the safety of advanced AI and risks of losing human control.
He will continue as Technical Research Lead at the University of Cambridge’s Programme on AI Science & Policy. He has also started co-directing the Beijing AI Safety Hub at Tsinghua.
Mindermann, scientific lead of the first International AI Safety Report, says working in Beijing will help build shared scientific understanding and sustained collaboration between Chinese and Western AI researchers.
